Night Photography
I went out shooting earlier today an found myself out at dusk - unfortunately, it was cloudy, so there was little in the way of beautiful sunsets, but I did manage to take some photographs of the dark night sky, something that I'm not able to do as often now that sunset is starting to get later again.
I ended up taking around fifty photographs today. I got an adapter so that I could use my "new" Tamron 28mm f/2.5 Adaptall II with my dSLR and it was a blast to use! Compared to my zooms, it's fast, sharp, and I found that a lack of autofocus was helpful - I could set the lens to hyperfocal focus (whereas the lens is focused such as that infinity is within the focus range at the aperture being used - for example, my Tamron can be focused to 5 feet at f/16, and everything from a bit less than 3 feet all the way to infinity will be in "acceptable" focus - which is something I can't easily do on my EF lenses) and not have to wait for my rather slow autofocus system to catch up with my shooting.
Unfortunately, my equipment was also a burden: f/2.5 is reasonably fast, but f/2 or f/1.8 (not even to mention 1.4) would be great, but I can't afford a lens that can do that; and my camera body (an 18 year old Canon EOS 10D) really shows its age when the ISO gets above ~400. Despite this, I'm really proud of some of these shots, and I look forward to exploring the capabilities of my new glass!
